Green Homes Good for Sales, Tax Breaks, and Alleviating Eco-Guilt

In a recent poll, 85 percent of Rent.com surveyors said they prefer to live in an eco-friendly residence. While yes, these are renters- those renters will be buying homes soon. Why not make your home more eco-friendly now to attract these buyers later if and when you are ready to sell? Not looking to sell your house? Going green saves you a good deal of money, and makes you feel better about reducing your environmental impact. Stylish: Green doesn’t have to mean boring. “Whether in traditional, contemporary or transitional spaces, green design reflects not only practicality and versatility, but beauty in its materials, making it the perfect choice for today’s interiors,” said Candice Olson, host of HGTV’s “Divine Design” and “Candice Tells All.” In the search for...

Green Technology- The Green Machine TerraBrick Maker

In 1997 my husband and I were invited to participate in the development of a company that produced high quality, low cost, compressed earth blocks (CEBs) that had the added advantages of having very favorable thermal and acoustic benefits and of being one of the most environmentally friendly products available on the market. The CEB called TerraBrick is made by mixing sub soil from the construction site with small quantities of cement. This precision quality, tongue and groove TerraBrick has been subjected to weapon testing to help evaluate its strength and durabaility. Under concentrated fire from AK47s, the wall system was not compromised, and no through penetration occurred to any single wall system even after repeated firing at close range.  TerraBrick has...

Apartment Exorcisms in NYC?

For example: Smudging, predictably, is a vastly unregulated world with little organization. It can include a real estate broker adopting theNative American tradition of burning sage in an apartment in preparation for the first open house. It can also extend to include the afternoon-long space clearings that Ms. Wendell does with clients, for which she charges $900...

According to some of the latest housing-market data and predictions, Washington D.C. could be one of the most stable metropolitan areas in 2011. The most recent Case-Shiller home index(released at the end of December 2010) showed that home prices fell in all 20 of the monitored metro areas. But out of all 20 metropolitan areas, the Washington, D.C. real estate market fared the best. In both the monthly and yearly categories, home prices in Washington D.C. were the most stable. The price drop from September to October was only 0.2 percent. The annual data showed a better picture, with a 3-percent rise in prices from October 2009 to October 2010. This was the strongest annual gain of all monitored...
