Finding the Time to Think

Every waking hour of a day is filled with activities. Your daytime hours are dedicated to work. Then, you must give time to your family and help the kids with their homework and after-school activities. When you get home, you must take care of cooking and household chores. And, don’t forget the time you must invest in your friends and hobbies. By the time you have a spare moment, it’s usually time to go to bed, so you can refuel for another day of activities.

When you are always on the move, you may start asking yourself, “Will I ever have any time to just think?” Unfortunately, many of us do not take the time to stop for a while and think. We believe that there is so much to do that there is simply no time to sit and thing.  But, there are many reasons why we should.

What does thinking do for us? Is it a valuable use of our time to pause and think every now and then?

The answer is a big YES! Pausing for a while and letting our minds run can help us see things more clearly. It is a healthy way for us to let our bodies rest and let our minds do the work. When we take the time to think, we allow our bodies and minds to connect, which helps create internal balance.

Just practice thinking for even five minutes. Think about what you have done, what you need to do, and what goals you need to accomplish. If you think, you are opening your mind to more ideas. This allows you to create better decisions in the future.

Thinking helps you ponder things from the past and allows you to identify mistakes and decisions from which you can learn lessons. It also reminds you of your goals, which can help you get back on track and moving forward toward your dreams.

By letting your body do all the work, you spend your days busily without actually focusing on your primary goals in life. You may accomplish a bit more from an objective standpoint, but those things may not truly be important and you may end up leaving your priorities behind. If you take the time to think and refocus your energy, you can stay on track to what is really important and therefore maximize your efforts by focusing them on the important things.
