Tips to Get Motivated at Work

Research has shown that motivated employees are happier, more energetic, more productive, and better performing than their unmotivated peers. However, even the most motivated employee can experience an occasional slump and need a boost to regain their normal energy levels. Most people struggle with this at some point in their careers, but sometimes it can be difficult to know how to  become remediated.

Here are six helpful tips to increase your work motivation:

  1. Create an inviting work space. Create a space you feel comfortable in by personalizing it with a few items from home or a few pictures of the people and places you love most. You can hang motivational quotes that you find inspiring.
  2. Concentrate on one goal at a time. Write down the tasks you need to accomplish for each day and determine the one thing that you absolutely must accomplish no matter what. This will help you stay focused and more motivated to achieve results. Multi-tasking can make you feel overwhelmed and overloaded, but the satisfaction of checking items off your list will help you stay focused on finishing one goal at a time before you move on to a new one. It will help you accomplish more and produce higher quality work because you will be able to give tasks your full attention.
  3. Consider establishing a career path by viewing any job you hold as a stepping stone to the next phase in your life. Think of your current position as something that is teaching you and preparing you for the next big challenge in your life.
  4. Reward yourself every time you achieve your goals and objectives. Decide in advance which tasks you will reward yourself for and what the reward will be. This will give you something to look forward to and give you extra drive to reach important milestones.
  5. Use memories of previous work success to motivate you. This is a way to use gratitude as a motivation-boosting strategy. Close your eyes and take yourself back to a moment when you were enjoying the successful achievement of a goal.  Remember that feeling and let it serve as a motivator that makes you want to experience that feeling again.
